Come to any of the open evenings for free up to three times, to see if the space is what you want. If you think so, then become a member and keep on visiting, tinkering, and experimenting with us!

If you're a member, you can come to the space for any of the open evenings.

If you're not a member (yet!), come to an open evenings for free before you sign up.

To become a member and regularly attend open evenings, it is £10 per month.

Everyone should be able to be a part of the community, so if you are on low income/a student/a retiree/have trouble affording this rate, please reach out to trustees@sheffieldhackspace.org.uk to discuss a discounted rate.

The joining process is to:

1. fill in the membership form using the secret word on the hackspace noticeboard.
2. pay the monthly £10 membership fee — by setting up a monthly £10 standing order to the Sheffield Hackspace bank account – on the 15th of the month – with a clear reference (e.g., “Subs Holly R”). You can find the bank details in the space or on the bank wiki page (requires Discord login)

Anyone who has paid their subscription rate by the end of the month is considered a member until the next 15th of the month.

We have a community Discord where we chat, organise, and spread information.

You can join via the “join link”, which is on the noticeboard in the space.

There is a tool list on the members' wiki. On 2025-06-25, this was: 2D Printers, 3D Printers, Hot Air Rework Station, Clothes iron, Laser cutter, Projector, Sewing Machine, Vinyl Cutter, Bin, Computing (including Raspberry Pis), Electronics (including multimeters, soldering iron, oscilloscope, PSU), Leatherworking box, Sewing box, Tape Hangar, Abrasive Chop Saw, Bandsaw, Belt and Disc Sander, Bench Grinders, CNC Router, Compressor, Drill Press, Dust Extractor Large, Heat Treat Furnace, Metal Lathe, Mitre Saw, Planer / Thicknesser, Plunge Router, Pneumatic Tools, Powered Hand Tools, Scroll Saw, Socket Set, Spindle and Belt Sander, Table Saw, Tool Wall, Wood Lathe.

This list is not exhaustive.

Mostly, yes! You should have an induction or ask for help to use the laser cutter and table saw, but any other tool is free for you to use. Some tools are quite dangerous, so please use caution, especially for power tools. If you are unsure, ask someone at the space or on Discord, and they can teach you how to safely use a tool, to make sure you don't hurt yourself or accidentally damage something.

Either ask in person or on the Discord! There is usually someone who has a lot of knowledge about what you're asking about, and they can point you in a good direction of tutorials, guides, or advice.

If you're not sure, send a message to the Discord! As with above, there's usually someone who's done similar before, or has some good ideas of where to start.
